When things in life do not go as we planned or anticipated it is really easy to throw a pity-party. It is perfectly acceptable to feel disappointed and sad, but on occasion we sometimes tend to stay in that place. This is not good for us and pulling yourself out can be a great deal of work.
Here are 3 things I do to get myself out of my pity-party. Give myself a pep-talk: Yes, it sounds a little obnoxious and if you do it out loud, in public, people might look at you funny. It does work. I have to remind myself that whatever I am feeling at that moment is only in that moment. I do not have to hold onto those feelings and they do not have to define anything more than that moment. Accept that some things are not meant for me: One of the bloggers I follow The Champagne Diet, always says "What is meant for you will not pass you." I love this and I say it to myself often. This is a great mantra to use when you are feeling down and out about something. Remember that the Universe gives us the things that are meant for us and even if we think something was meant for us, the plan must not have been. So feel our feels and then let it go. Finally, LET IT GO. Yes, I do happen to love that song and it is great therapy to get yourself out of the pity-party funk. I like to blast it on the radio and sing at the top of my lungs. Letting shit go is really hard for me but I have found, with some work, it is actually very freeing. If something doesn't go the way we wanted, we just should let it fucking go. I am no expert on this and am still holding on to a few things from a year ago. However, I am working to let them go and when I get there it is going to feel wonderful. So, have a mini pity-party, but do not stay in that place. Have your moment, feel what you need to feel, sing like Elsa if you need and then just let it go. All that usually means, is that there is something else waiting for you and it is going to be great!
